Bad Cigarette Smoking Habits

Monday, Feb. 1st 2010How hard was it to quit biting your fingernails or picking your nose? How hard was it to learn to buckle-up? For someone who drove for 40 years without a seat belt, it was very difficult to change and that’s a fact of life. So what’s so different with cigarettes? If you’ve been puffing away for 40 years, how in the world do you expect to quit? Habits are very difficult to break and when combined with a drug, now you can see why it’s almost impossible to quit, even by using smoke deterrent products. How long would it take you to stop biting your fingernails, if you knew that it would eventually kill you if you continued?
All your bad cigarette smoking habits need to be addressed and once you are very serious about quitting and I mean dead serious, then you need to have a replacement item (instead of a cigarette) that you can stick in your mouth. A healthy breakfast in the morning instead of a coffee and a cigarette – After lunch, instead of a cigarette, go for a brisk walk (take a bottle of water with you). When the phone rings, chew on carrots or celery sticks or even toothpicks. Of course these are not as tasty as that cigarette but much healthier. Make a list of pros and cons to make a decision of smoking or quitting. You’ll see the benefits of quitting over the problems associated with smoking. Many of these problems are in the distance and not clearly visible (like wearing an oxygen tank on your back) and this is why it’s so easy to have another cigarette.Make a list of all your smoking habits, put a star beside your bad ones and keep this list handy at all the times, so you can refresh your memory when that time comes when you need a cigarette. Have a plan of action at this point to overcome the craving or habit like drinking a glass of water. The nicotine craving won’t last too long but the habits will hang around for quite some time but don’t worry, it will get easier each time you go through this process. Remind yourself of the health and financial benefits and just the fact that you’re feeling better. Give yourself a reward on some occasions with the money you’re saving because you definitely deserve it.
