Thursday, Apr. 23rd 2009If you turn back the pages of history, you would realize that the obsession to look beautiful and young is not new to humanity. For ages, people have been working on improving their looks. In today’s contemporary society, good looks are critically important for your self-confidence, success, and personal growth. Some of the factors, which have helped in popularizing cosmetic surgery, are discussed below.

In the early days of cosmetic procedures, people used to consider cosmetic surgery to be unethical (because they used to feel guilty about altering what God gifted them with) and therefore, the benefits of cosmetic surgery were not publicized openly. However, with time, the perceptions of people have changed. Increasing publicity and promotional campaigning for cosmetic surgery (in the form of newspaper ads, online ads, and websites of medical institutions offering cosmetic surgery facility, or medical tourism options promoting cosmetic surgeries) have greatly contributed to its popularity. You can flip through the pages of any newspaper or magazine and you are bound to find advertisements on the benefits of cosmetic surgery. We observe that the number of interested people, especially women, opting for cosmetic surgery option has greatly increased. Consequently, it has resulted in boosting the number of qualified practitioners as well as unqualified practitioners.
As cosmetic surgery is elective, it is not covered by insurance. However, any cosmetic surgical procedure, which is performed for correction of congenital deformities or deformities resulting from accidents are covered by insurance. Insurance coverage is also available for plastic surgery for correction of cancer deformities like mastectomy.
